Help page

How it works:

For a trouble-free use of our system, as well as the most accurate essay grading results, please upload your students’ writing in one of the following ways.

1. Copy paste the essays in a text format.

We fully support plain text formats.

  • Simply provide the student’s writing as text in the frame provided preceded by the prompt.

2. Upload an image in PNG or JPEG format

You may opt to upload a scanned copy or a photo of your student’s work in PNG or JPEG format.
If you do this, do pay special attention to the following:

  • Orientation: Make sure the image is in portrait mode.
  • Single Photo for Multi-page Work: If the student’s writing spans more than one page, ensure that everything is captured in a single image.
  • Legibility: Make sure your student’s handwriting is legible and clear, otherwise you run the risk of having their text misread.
  • Clarity of image: Please ensure that the image you provide is clear and photographed…
    • at a correct angle
    • in good ambient light
    • with a good autofocus camera
    • at the right distance from the paper
    • with a steady hand to avoid blur
    • without showing bright flash areas
    • avoiding blurry or dark corners

3. Dealing with illegible handwriting or difficulty in getting a perfect image.

If you have issues with your students’ handwriting or face difficulty in acquiring good images, here are some possible SOLUTIONS:

  • Ask students to rewrite their assignment and submit again preferably in the form of electronic text.
  • Read the essay into a voice to text converter.
  • Use a Character Recognition Assistant and correct where needed before uploading.

4. Uploading handwriting image (Beta feature).

This is a badly taken photograph, the image is overexposed in the middle of the paper and too dark in the edges. Such images are likely to give poor results.

This image is too dark and as such it is unlikely to give good results. Also the essay has been photographed from a wrong angle giving a squint image, which will not bring good results.

This is a clean scanned copy but the handwriting is rather poor with lots of correcting scribbles. The chances are the accuracy of the results will suffer.

This is just to show how certain types of handwriting can create word recognition issues. Look how certain letters can simultaneously spoil the words on two lines. The results will be extremely poor due to lack of character recognition.
